The Australian Antarctic Program has opened recruitment for its 2027/28 season, offering more than 200 contracts lasting from six months to more than 12 months. Roles include electricians, carpenters, mechanics, plumbers and chefs, plus science, aviation, voyage and field leadership positions supporting Davis, Mawson and Casey stations and the Wilkins runway. Applicants must be Australian citizens with trade qualifications and experience, and applications close on 31 October.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority says David Anderson, its head of Vessel Safety and Cargo Regulation, has been re-elected Chair of the International Maritime Organization's Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers. First elected in 2024, he will stay in his AMSA role while chairing the body, which sets global standards for dangerous goods, bulk and gas cargoes, containers and alternative ship fuels.

The Murray–Darling Basin Authority has released its 2026 draft Sustainable Diversion Limit Adjustment Mechanism (SDLAM) determination report for public comment. The draft assumes 22 of 39 originally notified measures will operate by the 31 December 2026 deadline, contributing 340 gigalitres a year against the 605 forecast, a 265-gigalitre shortfall. Submissions close on 1 November 2026 before the MDBA finalises its determination.
