The Deep Creek Bridge on State Highway 82 in South Canterbury will be replaced at a cost of $7.5 million from the Regional Infrastructure Fund, Regional Development Minister Shane Jones and Transport Minister Chris Bishop announced. The bridge carries about 1850 vehicles a day, and major cracking in its pier makes replacement better value than continued repairs. Design and consenting are expected to begin within six months, with construction due to start in 2027.

Oceans and Fisheries Minister Shane Jones announced two Aquaculture Settlement Areas in Marlborough, covering 4056ha east of D'Urville Island and 1870ha in Cloudy Bay, held while the Crown and Te Tau Ihu iwi negotiate a settlement under the Māori Commercial Aquaculture Claims Settlement Act. Existing recreational, commercial and customary fishing in the areas is unaffected, and any aquaculture will need the usual consents. The move supports a target of $3 billion in annual aquaculture revenue by 2035.
