A man has died after becoming trapped in an avalanche on Mount Dixon in Canterbury on the morning of 18 October, Police said. Emergency services were called just after 10am and a Search and Rescue response was activated, with the man located unresponsive a short time later. He was pronounced dead despite efforts by those at the scene; his body has been recovered and the death will be referred to the Coroner.
