The Competition and Markets Authority is consulting on proposals that would require Apple to give UK businesses access to iPhone contactless (NFC) technology through both main international standards, secure element and host-based card emulation. The CMA expects resulting access fees to be substantially lower than Apple's current charges, helping fintechs launch rival wallets, digital IDs, travel passes and digital keys. The consultation closes on 17 November 2026.

A measure tabled for the Social Housing Bill on 20 October will let social landlords remove domestic abusers while survivors keep their tenancy, without survivors having to prove abuse again where a protection order is in place. Housing Secretary Angela Rayner said abusers would no longer be able to use a shared home as a weapon of control. The Bill also simplifies council tenants' Right to Manage and is expected to keep an additional 18,000 homes in the social sector over the next decade.

### [Full steam ahead: new station for Bradford](https://mediarelease.co/uk/mr02098-full-steam-ahead-new-station-for-bradford-20102026.html)

The government has confirmed a new station at Bradford Interchange as part of Northern Powerhouse Rail, with the location decided alongside West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin. The Great British Railways station, due in the 2030s, will replace the 1970s building and bring faster, more frequent trains to Leeds, Manchester and York. With the proposed West Yorkshire Mass Transit, it could support thousands of new homes and jobs and up to £1 billion in economic benefits.
