The UK will lead development of three undersea sensor payloads for uncrewed underwater vehicles under AUKUS Pillar 2: a Synthetic Aperture Sonar, a Deployable Anti-Submarine Warfare Sensor and a Deployable Non-Kinetic Effector. Housing Secretary Angela Rayner announced proposals on 27 October 2026, during the second reading of the Remediation of Unsafe Cladding Bill, to protect more leaseholders from bills for historic building and fire-safety defects. Leaseholders in collectively owned and enfranchised buildings would get new government funding, and the protection limit for owners of multiple properties would rise from three to six. Construction product manufacturers would contribute to remediation, and the Bill sets fines of up to £500,000 for those failing to fix unsafe buildings.
