The Melbourne Cobras played their debut men's and women's Hockey One League matches in Parkville on 11 October, becoming the league's eighth team and Victoria's second alongside Hockey Club Melbourne. Sport Minister Steve Dimopoulos said the Victorian Government-backed side is Australia's first India-centric sports franchise. The Cobras will play three home matches in Parkville and one in Bendigo during the 2026 season, which runs until 22 November.

Tasmania's $130 million Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department expansion is progressing in stages while the hospital stays open, Health Minister Bridget Archer said on 11 October. Earlier stages added a Short Stay Unit and 28 treatment points in 2023, then upgraded staff amenities and training facilities in late 2024. The current phase will deliver a three-level emergency department with 120 treatment points, imaging, procedure rooms, a dedicated paediatric zone and mental health waiting areas.

Queensland had a record 52,500 homes under construction in the June quarter, the fourth consecutive record for the state's housing pipeline, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics data cited by Premier David Crisafulli and Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie. Homes under construction rose 35.6 per cent over two years and completions 4.2 per cent. The pair turned the sod at Chambers Flat in Logan, where a $136 million Residential Activation Fund investment in a wastewater plant is set to unlock 20,000 homes.
