Privacy Policy

Who we are

MediaRelease.co (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is a media-release distribution site that hosts and displays press and media releases from government sources and from organisations that submit content to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information when you visit MediaRelease.co, use our country or topic pages (including US federal and state pages), subscribe to feeds, or submit a media release.

Media release content — important notice

MediaRelease.co does not create, verify, or take responsibility for the substance of media releases published on this site. Each release remains the responsibility of the release provider — for example the issuing government office, department, agency, company, organisation, or the person or entity that submitted it.

  • We host and display source material (and, where applicable, a short teaser or synopsis we generate for listing pages) so journalists and the public can find it.
  • Accuracy, completeness, lawfulness, and any claims in a release are the release provider’s responsibility, not ours.
  • Official “Source” links on release pages point to the provider’s original publication where available. Always check the original source for authoritative wording.
  • If you believe content is unlawful, incorrect, or should be removed, contact us and (where possible) the original release provider. We may moderate, reformat, refuse, or remove content at our discretion, including to comply with law or protect users.

Using MediaRelease.co does not create a journalist–client, attorney–client, or advisory relationship. Publication on this site is not an endorsement of any release, organisation, product, or political position.

Scope

This policy covers personal information processed in connection with:

  • Browsing MediaRelease.co (including US, UK, AU, NZ, and topic pages such as AI);
  • Submitting a media release or newsroom/source details via our forms;
  • Contacting us by email; and
  • Optional analytics or similar technologies we use to understand site usage.

It does not cover third-party websites linked from a release’s Source line or elsewhere on the site. Those sites have their own privacy practices.

Personal information we collect

Information you provide

  • Submission details — such as release title, body or synopsis text, organisation name, country/region, keywords, and media or organisational contact name, email, and phone (if you include them).
  • Correspondence — information you send when you email or message us about a submission, correction, or privacy request.

Information collected automatically

  • Technical and usage data — such as IP address, approximate location derived from IP, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring URL, and timestamps.
  • Cookies and similar technologies — we may use cookies or local storage for basic site function and, where enabled, analytics (for example Google Analytics / Google tag) to understand aggregate traffic. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

We do not require an account to read releases. We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information (as defined under US state privacy laws) for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you.

How we use personal information

  • To receive, review, host, and display media releases and related listing pages;
  • To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the website;
  • To communicate with you about a submission, moderation decision, or service notice;
  • To respond to privacy or content requests and to comply with law; and
  • To understand how the site is used in aggregate (analytics).

We do not use personal information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.

How we share information

We may share personal information with:

  • Service providers that host our site, database, email, or analytics infrastructure, under instructions to process data for us;
  • The public, to the extent a media release or submission you asked us to publish includes contact or organisational details you supplied for publication;
  • Authorities, when required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or the integrity of the service; and
  • Successors, if we are involved in a reorganisation, sale, or similar transaction, subject to this policy’s principles.

We do not sell your personal information for money. We also do not “share” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are commonly defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) / California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). If that ever changes, we will update this policy and provide any required opt-out.

Your privacy rights (United States)

If you are a resident of the United States — including California and other states with consumer privacy laws — you may have some or all of the following rights, subject to legal exceptions:

  • Know / access — request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, and information about how we use and disclose it;
  • Correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information we maintain about you;
  • Delete — request deletion of personal information we collected from you, subject to exceptions (for example, content we must retain for legal compliance, security, or to complete a transaction you requested);
  • Opt out of sale or sharing — as noted above, we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising; you may still contact us to record your preference;
  • Limit use of sensitive personal information — where applicable; we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics;
  • Non-discrimination — we will not deny goods or services, charge different prices, or provide a different level of service solely because you exercised a privacy right; and
  • Appeal — if we decline your request, you may ask us to reconsider by replying to our decision email.

US state laws (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, and others) differ in detail. We will honour applicable rights for your state of residence. You may designate an authorised agent to submit a request on your behalf where your state allows it; we may need to verify both your identity and the agent’s authority.

How to submit a US privacy request

Email us using the contact link below with the subject line “Privacy request”, and tell us:

  • Which right you want to exercise;
  • Your name and a contact email;
  • Your state of residence; and
  • Enough information for us to locate your data (for example, the email used in a submission, or a MediaRelease.co release ID).

We will verify your request using information we already hold (such as matching an email on a submission). We aim to respond within the time required by applicable law (generally 45 days under CCPA/CPRA, which may be extended once where permitted).

Content of a published media release: a privacy request about personal data in a release that was published by or for a government body or another organisation may need to be directed primarily to that release provider. We can help where we control a copy on MediaRelease.co, but we are not the original publisher of third-party release text.

Visitors outside the United States

MediaRelease.co is also used from New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, or to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise those rights. If we transfer personal information internationally (for example to hosting providers), we take steps appropriate to the nature of the transfer and applicable law.

Retention

We keep published release pages and related operational records for as long as they remain useful for the public archive or as needed for legal, security, and accounting purposes. Submission and contact records are kept as needed to process your request and operate the service, then deleted or anonymised when no longer required.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; please use a strong unique password on your own email account and avoid sending unnecessary sensitive data in submissions.

Children

MediaRelease.co is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where a higher age applies). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

Do Not Track

Some browsers send “Do Not Track” signals. There is no common industry standard for responding to them; we do not currently alter our practices solely based on DNT signals. You can limit cookies in your browser and, where available, use analytics opt-outs offered by analytics providers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy. Material changes that affect US consumer rights will be highlighted on this page.
