The Australian Antarctic Division says the RSV Nuyina departed Hobart on the season’s first voyage south with 90 people and more than 950 tonnes of cargo, among it two helicopters, two excavators and a reverse osmosis plant. Over half of that load supports the $272.5 million Davis Critical Infrastructure Works, a six-year upgrade of key Davis station buildings. Work this summer centres on new water production facilities, and the project is expected to finish in 2032.

The NSW Government has named a former Glencore-owned mine site at Teralba in the Hunter as its preferred location for a state-owned factory to build the next generation of passenger trains, with Broadmeadow kept as an alternative. The facility is central to the $12 billion Future Fleet Program, which is expected to support up to 780 construction jobs and about 550 ongoing jobs. Work would begin with the Tangara replacement fleet, followed by Millennium and OSCAR replacements in the 2040s.
