Interior Finalizes Rule Restoring Alaska-Specific Management Framework for National Parks and Preserves
The U.S. Department of the Interior and National Park Service finalized a rule restoring the Alaska-specific framework for wildlife harvest, subsistence-related activities and some public access procedures in Alaska’s national parks and preserves. It rescinds regulatory changes made in 2015, 2017 and 2024 and returns to rules developed under the 1980 Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act. The federal subsistence priority is unchanged. The rule publishes in the Federal Register on October 19, 2026 and takes effect 30 days later.
