Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and the state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity said trailer maker Hyundai Translead is expanding its planned Will County investment to $600 million and 3,750 full-time jobs, adding a third shift. Its two facilities occupy former Caterpillar and Lion Electric sites. The state is also funding a new Manufacturing Training Academy at Joliet Junior College to train technicians and double welding capacity.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said the state’s Medical Debt Relief Program has erased more than $1.4 billion in medical debt for nearly 700,000 residents across all 102 counties in its first two years, beating its $1 billion goal. The state has spent about $10 million, with each dollar clearing more than $100 of debt. Run with nonprofit Undue Medical Debt, the program covers households at or below 400% of the federal poverty level and requires no application.

Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Revenue said the state’s Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit cut taxes for about 950,000 families, saving them more than $600 million last year. Preliminary data show families claiming both credits kept an average of $1,460 in 2025. A qualifying family of four can receive up to about $2,002 in combined state credits on top of the federal EITC.

Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced $17 million to expand the National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The funding includes $15 million from the state and $2 million from the Illinois Corn Growers Association. The expansion will add research space so the center can help more companies develop and commercialize bioproducts.

Governor JB Pritzker announced that Arthur Hill, Jr. will continue serving as a member of the Illinois Forensic Science Commission, pending confirmation by the Illinois Senate. Hill most recently served as an associate judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, presiding over traffic, juvenile and criminal court. He is also a former Cook County assistant state's attorney.

Governor JB Pritzker’s office said FEMA has denied Illinois’ request for a major disaster declaration after severe storms, a derecho, flooding and tornadoes struck the state in August. The request sought individual and public assistance for Champaign, Cook, Ford, Fulton, McLean, Tazewell, Vermilion and Will counties. Illinois plans to appeal, and Pritzker criticised the decision after issuing a state disaster proclamation for the storms.

Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Agriculture announced $1.8 million in available funding through the Local Food Infrastructure Grants program. Grants range from $1,000 to $250,000 for collaborative projects and up to $75,000 for individual projects covering processing, storage, aggregation or distribution infrastructure such as refrigerated vehicles. Applications will be available from November 2, 2026, on the department’s website.

Governor JB Pritzker hosted a bipartisan group of 13 governors and the Mayor of Washington, D.C. in Chicago for the 2026 Governors’ Summit on the State of PJM. Pritzker announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding formally creating the PJM Governors’ Collaborative to coordinate states’ positions on the regional grid operator. The group aims to lower electricity costs, improve reliability and increase state representation in PJM decision-making.

Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Finance Authority launched a pilot low-interest loan program to help farmers build on-site grain storage facilities and buy equipment to operate them. The IFA will contribute its capital to private-sector loans to lower borrowing costs. The state said on-farm storage cuts transport and remote storage costs and gives farmers more control over when their grain goes to market.

Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced that cable manufacturer Viakable will invest $55 million to expand its facilities in La Salle, Illinois. The project will create 50 new full-time jobs and retain 65 existing positions, with support from DCEO’s EDGE program. The state said the expansion followed Pritzker’s 2025 trade mission to Mexico.

Governor JB Pritzker requested a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration from FEMA after a derecho and severe weather impacted eight Illinois counties from August 11–16, 2026. He also extended a Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation so state resources remain available for response and recovery.
