New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill asked President Donald Trump for a federal major disaster declaration for Monmouth, Atlantic and Cape May counties after a severe Nor'easter in September. FEMA-validated preliminary damages totaled about $13.8 million in Cape May, $8.5 million in Monmouth and $4.7 million in Atlantic County. New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill launched the New Jersey Supercomputer Initiative, a public-private partnership backed by more than $125 million, including a $75 million personal gift from NVIDIA co-founder Chris Malachowsky and his wife Melody and $25 million from SHI International. All eight of the state’s higher education research institutions are partners. The supercomputer, to be administered from 2027 by an independent nonprofit and hosted by SHI, is expected to double university supercomputing capacity statewide.

Acting Governor Nicholas Scutari signed Executive Order No. 27 directing U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in memory of State Senator Sandra Bolden Cunningham. Cunningham died on October 6 at the age of 76. She represented the 31st Legislative District for more than 16 years and held several Senate leadership positions.

Governor Mikie Sherrill joined governors from 12 other states and the mayor of Washington, D.C., in launching the bipartisan PJM Governors' Collaborative. The group is intended to give states a stronger, unified voice in regional grid decisions affecting electricity costs, reliability and economic growth. Sherrill said coordinated action across state and party lines is needed to hold PJM and utilities accountable.

Governor Sherrill Provides Update on MVC Issue, Announces Reforms to Agency’s Voter Registration Processes

Governor Mikie Sherrill said a review of voter-registration processes at New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle Commission found about 750 additional records affected by the IDEMIA system error from June 2023 to June 2024 and about 340 potentially improper registrations from MVC re-entry events dating back to 2016; neither issue involved noncitizens. Affected records are being deleted or referred to counties for review. The MVC is moving to a new vendor and adding daily pre-transfer audits and multilingual registration questions.

TRENTON - Governor Mikie Sherrill today signed Executive Order 22 to continue the Judicial Advisory Panel, which assists the Governor in evaluating candidates for appointment to the Superior Court of New Jersey and Supreme Court of New Jersey. The order establishes an eight-member panel, including at least five former judges, and provides that the Governor will designate its chair.
