South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and White House National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross launched Project Lifeline 250, a six-month pilot to strengthen cybersecurity at rural hospitals in South Carolina at no cost to participants. The program pairs hospitals with technology companies including Cisco, Microsoft, Trellix, Zscaler and Cyera to harden networks, provide backup systems after attacks and replace high-risk legacy devices.

Westinghouse Electric Company will invest approximately $1 billion to expand its Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility in Hopkins, Richland County, building a new factory for low enriched uranium plus (LEU+) nuclear fuel, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster’s office announced. LEU+ fuel is enriched to 5% to 8%, raising reactor output and cutting refueling time. The 1968 plant already makes fuel powering about 10% of U.S. electricity; construction is underway, with operations expected in 2030.

Governor Henry McMaster announced that President Donald J. Trump approved South Carolina’s request to raise FEMA’s federal cost share for Public Assistance after Hurricane Helene from 75 percent to 90 percent. The program reimburses eligible state and local governments and certain nonprofits for costs such as debris removal and infrastructure repairs. The release said FEMA Individual Assistance has provided $334 million to more than 250,000 survivors in the state.

New Orleans-based biotechnology company Obatala Sciences has selected Charleston County, South Carolina, for its first East Coast operation. The $656,000 investment is expected to create 46 new jobs and training opportunities. The operation at Blue Sky Labs in Charleston, run in partnership with MUSC, will support translational research, product development and scale-up of the company’s human-derived biomaterials and tissue models, and is already online.

Packaging manufacturer CurTec USA is expanding its operations in Oconee County, South Carolina, with a $10 million investment expected to create 10 new jobs. The company, which makes plastic drums, pails and jars for the life sciences and fine chemicals industries, will expand warehouse and production lines at 365 Oconee Business Parkway in Westminster. Operations are expected to come online in summer 2027.

Engineering and manufacturing company Re:Build plans to expand its advanced composites manufacturing operations in York County, South Carolina, with an investment of about $20 million expected to create 150 jobs. The company is adding a 130,000-square-foot facility at 2021 Williams Industrial Blvd. in Rock Hill, with operations expected online in November 2026. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development awarded York County a $100,000 Set-Aside grant for building improvements.
