Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox will lead a trade and diplomatic delegation to Ireland and Northern Ireland from October 20 to 28, organized by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development with World Trade Center Utah. The mission targets partnerships in life sciences, energy infrastructure, quantum computing, advanced manufacturing and digital technology. The delegation plans to meet Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin in Dublin and will also visit Galway and Belfast.

President Trump approved a major disaster declaration for Utah covering the June 2026 Cottonwood Fire and the flooding and mudslides that followed in July. FEMA public assistance will be available in Beaver and Piute counties, where a joint assessment found at least $47 million in possible eligible damage. Damage includes Beaver City’s hydroelectric system, water supplies and roads. It is Utah’s first major disaster declaration since 2023.

Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox signed an executive order setting a pro-human framework for artificial intelligence across state government under the Pro-Human AI Initiative established in December 2025. The order mandates AI literacy training for state employees, directs agencies to use AI to streamline internal processes and citizen-facing services with human review, and adopts the State-Endorsed Digital Identity Framework. The Department of Government Operations will report annually from July 1, 2027.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox ordered U.S. and state flags at half-staff on September 11 for Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance. The order marks 25 years since the September 11 attacks.

Cox today announced the appointments of Judge Matthew L. Menssen to serve on the Utah Supreme Court, and Elizabeth "Liz" Butler to serve on the Third Judicial District Court. The Supreme Court appointments fill vacancies created by the retirement of Chief Justice Matthew Durrant and the resignation of Justice Diana Hagen.
