Governor Abigail Spanberger announced the release of more than $67 million in Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative funds for home energy efficiency projects in Virginia. The money includes $15 million for the Weatherization Deferral Repair program, which will fund critical repairs to more than 1,000 homes so they can qualify for federal weatherization upgrades. The Department of Housing and Community Development runs the programs through a statewide network of 15 weatherization providers.

Governor Abigail Spanberger announced that the Virginia Nursing Workforce Center has awarded nearly $1.3 million in scholarships and incentives to nearly 350 prospective nursing students. The center was created this year under bipartisan legislation to streamline nursing scholarship funds that had gone underused. Governor Abigail Spanberger announced $615,000 in Virginia Main Street grants for 22 community revitalization projects in historic downtowns. The awards include $445,000 in Downtown Investment Grants across 10 localities and $170,000 in Community Vitality Grants across 12 localities, and are expected to leverage more than $230,000 in local funding. The Department of Housing and Community Development administers the program.

Governor Abigail Spanberger hosted about 1,000 law enforcement, public safety and community leaders in Richmond for Virginia’s first statewide Unified Readiness Summit on emergency preparedness. Participants from 30 sectors discussed communications, joint planning, capacity and workforce gaps identified at seven regional summits earlier this year. Findings will inform new laws and executive action, building on the Virginia Unified Readiness Framework she established by executive order in August.

Governor Abigail Spanberger announced 2026 School Performance and Support Framework results for more than 1,800 Virginia schools, released two months earlier than last year. The release reports more than 99 percent of schools fully accredited and 16 of 49 eligible Title I schools exiting Comprehensive Support and Improvement status. The Virginia Department of Education is also opening a $26.7 million grant opportunity for schools serving the highest-needs students.
