AFMA is seeking research proposals to address priority fisheries research needs identified for potential funding in 2027/28.
Research priorities have been developed through consultation with AFMA's Resource Assessment Groups (RAGs), Management Advisory Committees (MACs), AFMA Management and the AFMA Research Committee (ARC). Research organisations, universities, consultants and other research providers are invited to submit proposals addressing these priorities.

AFMA is seeking proposals against the research priorities outlined in the: 2027–28 Research Priority Scopes
Applicants should review the scope and objectives for each priority before preparing a proposal.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss their proposal with the relevant AFMA Fisheries Manager or the AFMA Research Section before submission.
Proposal Requirements
Proposals should be submitted using the AFMA Research Application Form and include:
- Research objectives and expected outcomes.
- Methodology and project design.
- Key project personnel and organisational capability.
- Proposed project schedule and milestones.
- Detailed budget breakdown.
- Proposed funding contributions from other organisations, where applicable.
- Alternative funding arrangements or co-investment opportunities.

- Full legal name of the organisation or contractor.
- Australian Company Number (ACN), where applicable.
- Contact details for the primary project lead.
