Geoscience Australia has detected an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 near Leongatha, Victoria early on Saturday 3 October, 2026.
The earthquake was recorded by Geoscience Australia’s National Earthquake Alerts Centre just after 2am - at 2:01 am AEST local time near Leongatha, south east of Melbourne in Victoria.
A short time later, an aftershock of magnitude 3.1 was recorded nearby.
