The Crisafulli Government is delivering greater opportunities for Queensland businesses to expand into one of the world's most dynamic economic regions under a new trade and investment strategy.
The Queensland-Southeast Asia Trade and Investment Strategy 2026–2028 sets out a targeted approach to growing exports, attracting investment and strengthening Queensland's economic relationships across the region.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering more jobs and better services through a stronger economy, with its open for business approach securing more investment and trade for Queensland.
Labor’s decade of decline tarnished Queensland’s international reputation but the Crisafulli Government has delivered an ambitious trade reset to rebuild relationships which were taken for granted.
The strategy identifies Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand as priority markets, with emerging opportunities in Malaysia and the Philippines.
It will focus on five sectors where Queensland's capabilities align with growing regional demand: food and agribusiness, education and training, energy, resources and mining equipment, technology and services and health and wellness.
The strategy builds on Queensland's established economic relationship with Southeast Asia, with five countries in the region - Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand - among Queensland's top 20 export destinations.
Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said Southeast Asia's growing population, expanding middle class and increasing demand for high-quality goods and services presented enormous opportunities for Queensland businesses.
“Under the Crisafulli Government, Queensland is open for business, and we are ready to make the most of the opportunities on our doorstep,” Minister Bates said.
“We are providing clear and targeted direction to help our exporters grow as we repair our global relationships that disintegrated under Labor.
“With about 700 million people and a growing middle class, Southeast Asia represents an extraordinary opportunity for Queensland exporters, businesses and investors.
“Our world-class beef and agricultural products, along with our expertise in education, mining technology, healthcare and energy, position Queensland to deliver what Southeast Asia needs.
“The Crisafulli Government is determined to make sure Queensland businesses are well positioned to take advantage of these opportunities, creating jobs and driving economic growth right across our state."
Trade and Investment Queensland Board Chair the Hon. Will Hodgman AC said Queensland's longstanding relationships with Southeast Asian countries provided a solid foundation for the next phase of economic growth.
“We want to build on Queensland’s relationships with our neighbours in Southeast Asia and make sure Queensland businesses, from our regional producers to our innovative technology companies, have the support they need to succeed," Mr Hodgman said.
