Canberra's community sporting clubs and organisations can now apply for a share of more than $4.6 million through the 2026 Sport and Recreation Investment Scheme (SRIS).
The funding will help improve local facilities, strengthen operations and deliver more opportunities for Canberrans to participate in sport and active recreation.
Funding is available through the Industry Partnership Program, State Organisation Support Program, Community Sport Facilities Program and Club Enhancement Program, supporting initiatives that build stronger, more sustainable sporting organisations and communities.
Applications are also open for the Women’s Coaching and Officiating Support Program, helping more women and girls to take on coaching and officiating roles across community sport.
Previous Sport and Recreation Investment Scheme funding is already delivering benefits across Canberra, from better facilities and equipment to stronger coaching and development opportunities.
Projects funded through the 2026 SRIS include new LED lighting at the Belconnen United Sharks Rugby League Football Club, accessibility improvements at Canberra Dragon Boats Association's Grevillea Park facility, irrigation redevelopment at Murrumbidgee Country Club, and support for Rowing ACT through funding for a new umpire boat, planning for the Yarramundi Reach regatta course finish tower and a female coach and mentor development program.
Information on eligibility and application requirements is available through the Sport and Recreation website.
Quote Attributable to Minister for Sport and Recreation Chris Steel:
“Since 2023, more than $13 million in grants have been awarded to clubs and organisations across Canberra.
“We are inviting sporting clubs to come forward with proposals for upgrades to existing facilities and constructing new facilities that grow participation in sport.
“Supporting more women and girls into leadership positions as coaches, umpires and officials is critical to the future of sport in the Territory. More women in these roles means more role models for young athletes and a stronger and more representative sporting community."
Quote attributable to Kent Peters, President, Rowing ACT:
“Rowing ACT is grateful for the ACT Government’s continued investment in our sport and our community. This funding is helping us modernise the way we deliver regattas, strengthen officiating and coaching pathways, enhance safety on the water, and progress planning for future rowing infrastructure. These investments create lasting benefits for athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers, and will help ensure rowing continues to thrive across the ACT for years to come.”
