Construction is well underway on the new $63.5 million Carss Park Pool, marking a major milestone in the Minns Labor Government’s commitment to deliver a new aquatic facility for the Kogarah Bay community.
Piling and inground works are well underway, with the foundations now taking shape for a new pool and facilities that will serve the community for decades to come.
The new facility is on track to open in late 2027 and will include an eight-lane, 50-metre outdoor pool, a 20-metre by 10-metre outdoor Learn to Swim pool and modern amenities including toilets, change rooms, family spaces and a kiosk.
Once complete, the new Carss Park Pool will provide a modern recreation, competition and Learn to Swim facility for local families, schools, swimmers and the broader community.
The Kogarah War Memorial Pool at Carss Park closed in 2019 after it was found to be polluting Kogarah Bay.
The much-loved pool has a proud history of producing some of Australia’s greatest swimmers, including former Olympian Janelle Pallister, mother of current Olympic gold medallist Lani Pallister.
Following strong community advocacy, the Minns Labor Government committed to working with the Commonwealth Government and Georges River Council to deliver a new pool at the site.
The $63.5 million project is being jointly funded by the NSW Government, Commonwealth Government and Georges River Council, with all three levels of government working together to deliver this important community facility.
ADCO Constructions is leading construction of the new facility under the guidance of the NSW Office of Sport and NSW Public Works.
Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:
“The Minns Labour Government promised, and is delivering on its commitment to return Carss Park Pool to the St George community.
“The new pool will provide generations of local families with a place to swim, stay active and connect with their community, and it’s exciting to see work under way at the site with a $38.5million injection from the Minns Labor Government.
“St George residents can start getting excited about swimming at one of Sydney’s most modern and accessible swimming facilities from late next year.”
Federal Member for Banks, Zhi Soon said:
“Construction has raced out of the blocks on this important community facility.
“Georges River families, swimmers and young people can look forward to sunny days on the pool deck at the new Carss Park Pool next summer.”
Councillor for Georges River Council, Elaina Anzellotti said:
“The start of construction at Carss Park Pool marks a major milestone for Georges River.
“Carss Park Pool was never just a pool, it was where people kept healthy, stayed connected, and built friendships.
"I am proud to be working with the Minns Labor Government to deliver this important community facility"
