Police are appealing to the public for information following the discovery of a large pool of blood in Wellington over the weekend.

Police were called to Coutts Street in Rongotai at around 10:40pm on Sunday 4 October, following the discovery of a large pool of blood in a pedestrian tunnel.

The scene was cordoned off while Police conducted a scene examination.

Further enquiries have determined the blood was human blood, and Police did not locate anybody in the surrounding areas at the time of attendance.

Police are now seeking the public’s assistance to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, as well as identifying anybody involved. If there is a person involved, our priority is to check on their welfare.

We’re appealing to anybody who was in the area near the tunnel, which runs under the Wellington Airport from Coutts Street, Rongotai, to Miro Street in Miramar, on Sunday evening prior to 10:40pm.

Additionally, anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the surrounding areas is encouraged to contact Police.
