One person has died after a water related incident in Tangimoana this afternoon.

About 2.30pm, Police were called to Tangimoana Beach Road after reports of two people were swept out to sea while swimming.

One person has managed to self rescue and reach the shore safely.

Sadly, at around 3.50pm, one person was located deceased.

Police worked at the scene alongside Hato Hone St John, New Zealand Defence Force, alongside volunteers from Coastguard Manawatū and Coastguard Whanganui, Surf Life Saving New Zealand, and members of the public.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
