DENVER - Today, Governor Jared Polis announced a new contest inviting Colorado seventh and eighth graders to be governor for a day, and join Governor Polis at the State Capitol. The “Governor for a Day” competition gives one student, who is passionate about state government and Colorado, the chance to see firsthand how state government works, from sitting in on meetings to learning what it takes to lead Colorado.
“Young Coloradans are our future and there's no better way to get involved in state government than by being Governor for a day. Every day, I work hard on behalf of Coloradans to build a brighter future for our state, and I can’t wait to show one of our students what that looks like firsthand. Colorado’s next generation of leaders is already in our classrooms, and I’m excited to give one of them a special opportunity to serve alongside me for a day,” said Governor Polis.
Colorado students in seventh and eighth grade can enter the contest starting today, August 31, with submissions closing on September 7. The Governor’s Office will announce the winner on September 14, who will then join Governor Polis in Denver for a behind-the-scenes look at a day in the life of Colorado’s governor.
To enter the contest, students must fill out the form and submit a video between 30 seconds to two minutes long explaining why they want to be the governor of Colorado for a day.
