Perplexity comes to more Windows PCs with HP

HP pre-loads the Perplexity Windows app onto Windows PCs for sourced answers, local work, and connected apps.

HP helped make the personal computer central to how people work. Today, HP and Perplexity are expanding what the PC can do by pre-loading the Perplexity Windows app on HP devices.

The app lets HP customers get accurate, sourced AI research and insights, and with Perplexity Computer, complete complex work across files, Microsoft 365, connected apps, and the web. On supported devices, Portable Computer runs sensitive work locally without sending tasks to the cloud.

The rollout begins with HP’s new HP ZBook Ultra G3a, a mobile workstation built for advanced AI workloads. The Perplexity Windows app will be pre-loaded in the taskbar, giving customers direct access to cloud and on-device AI from their PCs. More HP Windows devices with Perplexity will ship in the coming months.

HP device owners can also use Computer inMicrosoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well asMicrosoft Teams. This brings AI into the tools where they already analyze information, create documents, build presentations, manage email, and collaborate.

Personal Computer for Windows extends those capabilities to the local HP Windows machine. Computer can work with files and folders on the PC, connected apps, and web. It can find a file in Downloads, update a local spreadsheet with current information from the web, revise a Word document, or create a PowerPoint deck.

Computer also connects to 400+ other apps and data sources, including Snowflake, Salesforce, HubSpot, and Revit. HP customers can combine local files with information systems that their organizations already use, completing work with full business context.

Computer orchestrates 15+ models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, and other leading AI labs, assigning the model best suited to each part of a task.

Now in addition to orchestrating cloud-based frontier models, the Perplexity Windows app lets HP customers run sensitive work fully locally on their device with Portable Computer. They just download a local model with one click.

Supported by the HP ZBook Ultra G3a’s local AI capabilities, users can run everyday tasks entirely on their own hardware. They can analyze data, synthesize files, and run complex workflows without sending tasks to the cloud.

People can keep private data on their PC and avoid spending money on cloud credits, as fully local work doesn’t consume any. And because the AI runs directly on device, responses are often faster, more private, and available even without an internet connection.

When a task needs more advanced research and reasoning, users can authorize Portable to escalate to the cloud for help while keeping sensitive information local. Portable checks whether users are sending personal or sensitive data to the cloud and alerts them before they share anything.

Perplexity, HP, and Autodesk have worked together to connect Autodesk Revit Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to Portable Computer through a special integration layer.

On supported HP Windows PCs, Portable can be configured to connect to Revit through Autodesk’s Revit 2027 Multi Context Protocol (MCP) server (Tech Preview). The MCP server is a separate add-on for Revit 2027 and requires access to Revit 2027.

Autodesk Revit is used for designing, documenting, and coordinating buildings using a model-based approach.

Using the MCP with Perplexity, users can ask questions about an open Revit model in everyday language, such as how many doors are on the first floor, which doors have a certain fire rating, or where those doors appear in the building. Computer can find the relevant information, show matching items in Revit, and export views, PDFs, and schedules for reports or follow-up work such as drafting a request for information.

The Revit MCP Server Tech Preview used in this configuration is read-only and doesn’t modify the Revit model.

HP’s ZBook Ultra G3a uses AMD’s Ryzen AI Max PRO 400-series processors and will be available in configurations designed for demanding AI and graphics workloads. It provides the local compute foundation needed to run sophisticated AI workflows directly on the device, reducing reliance on cloud resources while keeping users in control of where work happens.
