Attributable to Sergeant Ryan Harrison:

A man is in critical condition after a reported assault in Norsewood.

Police and ambulance were called to reports of disorder around 10:30am on the side of State Highway 2, following which the alleged offenders have left in a vehicle.

The victim has suffered critical injuries and has been transported by helicopter to Wellington Hospital.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify and locate the vehicle and those involved.

A Police presence remains at the scene of the assault, just north of Kopua Road.

Traffic is being diverted around the scene while officers conduct a scene examination.
