RNZAF C-130J Hercules delivers fire truck and FENZ crew to Niue

A Royal New Zealand Air Force C-130J Hercules has flown a surplus Fire and Emergency New Zealand rural firefighting truck, equipment, a drone and six FENZ wildfire specialists from Christchurch to Niue. The island's wildfire, which burned scrub and plantation vegetation, is controlled and being monitored by local crews. Air Commodore Andy Scott said the deployment reflects New Zealand's support for its Realm partner, and FENZ will provide training and technical advice.

Fatal crash: Te Puke

One person died and another was taken to hospital in a critical condition after a crash near the corner of Te Puke Highway and Rangiruru Road, Te Puke, at about 10.50am on 10 October. The road was closed with diversions in place, and the Serious Crash Unit was advised. Police said enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Police reiterate appeal following Norsewood assault

Police have renewed their appeal for information about the 10 October assault beside State Highway 2 at Norsewood that left one person in a critical condition. Cordons have been lifted, but officers remain in the area and are still trying to locate the alleged offenders, who left in a vehicle. A man was flown to Wellington Hospital in a critical condition after a reported assault beside State Highway 2 at Norsewood, just north of Kopua Road, around 10.30am on 10 October. Sergeant Ryan Harrison said the alleged offenders left in a vehicle that Police are working to identify. Person charged in relation to Braydon Hepworth death

A 60-year-old Christchurch man has been charged over the disappearance and death of 21-year-old Braydon Hepworth, Police said on 10 October. He faces charges relating to concealing Hepworth's body and making a false statement, and was due to appear in the Christchurch District Court that morning. Detective Inspector Scott Anderson said Police cannot comment further while the matter is before the courts.

Charges laid in Phillipstown double homicide

A 58-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder, one of attempted murder and one of wounding with intent after a double homicide at a Phillipstown, Christchurch, address early on 10 October. He is due in the Christchurch District Court on Monday 12 October. Detective Inspector Greg Murton said Police are not seeking anyone else and there is no risk to the public.
