Island Coast Spirits, a small-batch distillery south of Hobart, has entered the Japanese market with support from Austrade and the Tasmanian Government. Its first shipment of about 500 bottles of whisky, vodka and gin arrived in April 2026 through importer Big Picture International. Torrumbarry Weir and Lock 26, about 80 kilometres downstream of Echuca, has won the 2026 Senator JS Collings Trophy for the most effectively maintained asset in the River Murray system, its fourth win. Goulburn-Murray Water operates the site under the direction of the Murray–Darling Basin Authority. The perpetual trophy, first awarded in 1943, is named after a former president of the River Murray Commission.

Australia will invest $3 million in the Climate Infrastructure for Resilient Coastlines and Riverbanks (CIRCAR) project, which helps Pacific communities protect infrastructure from climate impacts. Queensland Police detected more than 13,400 traffic offences, including more than 6,800 for speeding, during Operation Spring Break, which began on 19 September. Officers carried out more than 118,000 random breath tests and 1,733 roadside drug tests, detecting more than 370 drug-impaired drivers. So far this year, 234 people have died on Queensland roads, and the operation runs until 10 October.

Early works have started on a new dual-lane, four-leg roundabout at the Bruce Highway–Walker Street intersection in Maryborough, which will connect Showgrounds Road, Walker Street and the highway. Up to 330 people a year are expected to receive home, community and virtual support from physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists and other allied health staff. Pilot locations will be confirmed in the coming months, with a planned start in early 2027.
